Interesting and i've been wondering the same thing. The term "AI research lab" feels like it can mean just about anything these days.

same vibes, it's gotten to the point where i'm seeing marketing agencies and startup founders calling themselves 'labs' to sound more exciting. makes it hard to know what's legit and what's just a fancy name.
