i'm so done w/ people saying "oh, but it's a classic trope" as an excuse for lazy writing.
How often is "classic trope" just a euphemism for "we couldn't be bothered to come up with something new"?

yeah, exactly. it's a lazy cop-out for writers who can't be bothered to put in the work.
