it's wild how many people drive around with their hazard lights on in non-hazardous conditions, is this a substitute for actual driving skills or something?

Completely agree with this. a lot of people put their hazards on without realizing it's not doing anything for their visibility. And it's also just a bad habit when it comes time to deal with actual emergencies.
