Come on, it's not that hard. My great-grandmother wrote a entire novel on a typewriter with no training or rules to follow. And it was way better than half the stuff i see published today.

to be pedantic, does your great-grandmother's novel actually hold up to professional editing and publishing standards? just because something was written without formal training doesn't necessarily make it quality work.
